To Be Committed To This Truth
Written and transcribed by Terry Grant
This is Ishvara's New Year's Message for 2006, which I have transcribed and edited from a talk he gave on January 1. - TG.
Ishvara:
People are afraid of commitment. Yet this Space is asking for absolute commitment: to be committed to this process, to be committed to this truth, to whatever degree you can realize it.
My commitment has sustained me. Those around me, who have been understanding and supportive and clear, have supported me. Those who have caught fire, who have become enthusiastic, who have really seen that something is happening, have been very supportive, very encouraging to me.
There are varying degrees in this commitment. I am not asking anyone to commit more than they have, more than they can, but my realization is that the universe calls for commitment. The universe says, "Be either hot or cold; if you are lukewarm, you will be cast aside."
It seems we are entering a time of universal expression. We are unique individuals. Each of you has certain talents, certain possibilities, certain awarenesses. The work is about finding a way to fit into what is happening. This involves letting go of the world in its consensus, and establishing yourself in a way so that you can deal with the world, so that you can do what you need to do to survive in the world, while totally committing to higher awareness, to The Consciousness, to this. I know it is often difficult to juggle your life to fit this in. But I have seen that those who make the effort to fit it in gain a certain blessing, a certain support, a certain inspiration which comes from that.
Over the years, a lot of people have come to the Space because they were in need or were having a problem. I have worked with them, sometimes spending immense amounts of time and effort and energy helping them to get on track. They got to a comfortable place in their lives, they felt in sync with what they wanted, and then they went their way, which is OK. I don't hold on to people. Yet I have seen that those individuals often progress no further. I don't see a lot of additional growth taking place after that. If they are happy with that, then that is fine. Much of what we do here is to help people become content with the way their life is, and to become more empowered about it. Nevertheless, when there is no commitment to the Space, to this awareness, things tend to go "on hold" for them; they seem to stay in a rut.
There is a certain stability to one's experience in this awareness, and that can be intimidating to people. The nature of stability is that there are not many ups and downs. It is natural for the intellect to notice that and think, "Nothing is happening," because the intellect is addicted to the roller coaster, the drama of life. It is addicted to the Ferris wheel, the merry-go-round--all of these rides. It is on a trip. And so this awareness is difficult to detect or explain.
Yet this will be a year of explanation. We are going to be explaining my presence, my work. When you become committed to this work, it becomes your work as well. It is beyond believing. Somehow, for each of you, it involves reaching that place within yourself where you recognize this truth, and you realize it is the pearl of great price, the most valuable thing you can know, participate in, and experience.
That is difficult for many individuals, because although they may sense this truth, they are afraid of the commitment. They fear, "How will I do what I need to do in the world? How will I live? Who will take care of me?" Often people see this commitment as requiring that they resign from the world, not participate in the world, but that is not the case at all, because when you have the commitment to this awareness, when you are truly committed to this, something happens in your life. There is an empowerment. There is a clarity, a knowing of what step to take and when to take it. It is a clarity that unfolds in the moment.
In this awareness, you may not have a lot of farsight in the way of seeing what needs to be done down the road. Rather, you see what is taking place moment by moment, step by step. That is difficult for people because the programming for consensus reality is to have a goal, to have projections, to set up criteria such as, "This is going to happen, then that is going to happen, and I will be there at that time, etc., etc." This awareness runs contrary to such programming. This awareness is more akin to flying by the seat of your pants. You don't have a real roadmap.
So to the intellect, to consensus reality, this is very difficult. But in actuality, it is very freeing. You realize there is no real "should." You realize that it is a process of operating from what inspires you, what encourages you, what lifts you, and downplaying the things that are discouraging or disappointing.
In this awareness, you are not escaping from the world or the world's problems. However, if you are totally immersed in the world's problems, it is difficult to see the bigger picture, and you wind up scaring yourself a lot. It is a scary world out there. There are maniacs on the loose. There are fingers on the button. There is no assurance for this world. And so, what I inspire, what I encourage in you is to be your own assurance, to embrace whatever level of awareness you can access, and implement that in your life.
This does not mean that you are unable to deal with the world. You can deal with the world. When you do not have a judgment, expectation or attachment, you can deal with whatever is in front of you. You are open to the current possibility, what is present, what is now. You are able to shift gears in the moment when you see something has arrived: "OK, it is now time; now I can do this." That takes a great deal of trust, confidence, and willingness.
